TGR x Koji Arboleda
It was actually on a sad note that I found time to emailed Koji. I’ve asked him beforehand that I was building a list of talented and upcoming photographers I wanted to feature on TGR, and I told him he’s on my shortlist. But after my excursion with Edric here, I haven’t gotten the chance to email anyone on that list.
About two weeks ago, I saw Koji being the artist he is, being pensive, and being a little down. As a friend, I wanted to cheer him up. What better way to make him smile and reiterate how talented he is than by asking him out on a shoot day with a model and a concept of his choice, for TGR? I was glad he saw it all exciting, because I did, too!

Koji is THE concept photographer behind editorials such as Please Hear What I am Not Saying, In Her Slumber, Maria, Maria’s Resurrection, and Metamorfos from Stache Magazine. It’s easy to note that Koji does not sacrifice his photography for convenience or ease. often, he works with paint, and other surface materials, combined with willing models and that signature “pained look” to express his feelings and ideas.

I had the privilege of seeing him work his way around his location. He’s absolutely biased with distressed sets, and strangely beautiful models. We drove to an old rundown grocery mart near UP, and as soon as Ecks was ready, Koji took the lead.

(Me and the lovely Ecks!)
I have always admired his eye for composition and post-processing routine. It seems like he’s perfected translating his conceptual vision to his art direction, photography, and post-processing. They’re all consistent and soulful, and very Koji Arboleda.
