Cherry Cartel by Charm Bin

It is my greatest pleasure to talk about the most anticipated collection launch by Charm Bin!

CHARM BIN

For the benefit of those who don’t know, Charm Bin has been around for a year and a half. Before that, however, Kit and Jo have already been playing with their tools and charms. The year before CB was born, they already made and sold jewelry, but not as seriously as how they took on their CB project, but it was a start.

Here are some of their pieces from their earlier collections:

(One of my personal favorites, the Pavlova collar necklace in silver)

(The Panettone multiple rings)

(Bosque handmade coin layered bracelet)

So who are the charming ladies behind the bin of charms?

Kit Singson and Joanna Malinis are visual communicators and creatives who graduated from the University of the Philippines just last April. Both girls have the knack for making rings, bracelets, and necklaces from random conventional objects found at home. Using their personal Facebook accounts, Kit and Jo started posting their creations that soon gained massive interest — and even income. That’s the time when they decided that they wanted to make a serious business out of something they enjoy doing.

Confidence Is The Key. What really inspires Charm Bin are their loyal customers.  Kit and Jo find so much fulfillment in maximizing their creativity by creating accessories and choosing clothes for their customers. Their pieces are characterized by simplicity and time-bound elegance. They envision confident women in anything Charm Bin. They love interacting with their customers, and they enjoy extending their business through bazaars.

THE RELAUNCH, AND THE NEW COLLECTION

On their anniversary, they reintroduced CB.

Tonight, we start anew. A streamlined, more sophisticated CB. A quality Kit and Jo are proud of. Handpicked or handmade, their accessories and apparel epitomize class and simplicity - without compromising style and wear-ability, not to mention affordability.

The duo are very proud of their collection, released tonight (8pm). It is a collection of firsts including a set/location shoot, and an all-clothing collection.

Cherry Cartel is a basket of berries, of pastel, and everything sweet. The pieces from the collection are named after these, creating the attractive offering to first-time buyers and avid customers alike. Kit (photographer) and Jo (MUA/stylist) are coming out with only the best of CB.

Laces, flowers, curved lines, and patterns - dainty and classy pieces for the confident woman of Charm Bin.

Here’s a preview of the contrasting and complementing hued apparel that await you!

TGR x Edric Chen

I was planning on featuring a roster of photographers for TGR, and it excited me when I heard from the first one I contacted via email, with a brilliant tradeoff suggestion. How would I like to arrange a photoshoot with a model of his choice in exchange for a day’s worth of experience more valuable than a thousand words transferred on a virtual thread?

Very.

I first heard of Edric from my Charm Bin partner, Jo, who told me about a photographer who shoots (almost exclusively) fashion bloggers with the likes of Tricia Gosingtian, Kryz Uy, Camille Co, Paul Jatayna, and An and En Estrada - interesting, right? I was thrilled to meet the man behind the name I’ve been following for quite a while now.

When I first met him, he was awkward and shy. We met up in the Greenhills area, his home turf, so to speak. Nonetheless, he was softspoken and introverted. I was sheepishly asking him questions myself, to get to know him and his persona as a photographer.

A lot of doors closed on him in the past. But there was one slightly ajar, which he opened. After that, many other doors started opening up for him.

I contacted Joyce, a friend from a year back, and coordinated everyone’s schedules and preferences. Last Saturday, April 7, we went into production. We drove around San Juan, and around Ortigas to find vignettes of his vision. As soon as he directed Joyce, his bashful demeanor vanished, and a photographer sure of himself took his place. I observed the transformation of this self-taught photographer from a quiet man to an expressive artist, taking mental notes while assisting for him. It was fascinating how it all happened.

He took us four, me, him, Joyce, and Jeff (a friend of Joyce’s) to snippets of his city, braving the humidity, the scorch of the sun, and the occasional security guard. Spectators were a given.

(2nd and 3rd sets)

For me, what sets him apart from the Tumblr Universe saturated with photoblogs is his copy-accompaniment. His photos are never bare with words. Some are lengthy, some are concise, but you see past his photographs into his soul, his psyche, his transparency all out, but quite vague during the shoot. More often than not, his words are moving and epiphanic.
